Season 2018-2019 information
Why are we starting the tryouts after Labour Day?
This year, based on new Hockey Quebec guidelines, it was recommended that we start later as to let families enjoy their summer vacations and to less conflict with summer sports.
Why are we doing our own double letter teams this season?
This year, Lac St-Louis guided the Associations to form their own Double Letter Teams, unless Associations merged together for all levels including single letters which logistically would have been a big challenge.
How many double letter teams and single letters and what caliber will we have this season?
The number of teams at single letters and double letters is a function of the number of registrations that we receive and is set by Hockey Quebec.
Currently we cannot be sure, and do not know exactly on how many teams there will be since we don’t have the exact number of registrations yet.
Be assured that this will be communicated to our members as soon as we know, and that the number of teams will follow Hockey Quebec rules.
How will we ensure balance across the hockey teams?
At the Double Letter levels, we have hired independent evaluators not associated with family members from HRS. These persons have coached or played at a Junior Major Level or Professionally as well as coached at a very high level.
At the Single Letter levels we will use evaluators whenever possible where their kids do not play at that level. We will also have evaluators not affiliated to HRS to cross check these evaluations to make sure that they have the same evaluations.
When will the teams be finalized?
We are planning to have Double Letter Teams finalised as follows so that teams can be calibrated:
- Atom Sept 28th.
- Pee Wee Sept 21st.
- Bantam Sept 21st.
- Midget Sept 21st.
For single letters from Pee Wee thru Midget by Sept 28th, Atom Oct 5th and Novice end of October.
What happens if my child does not make the double letter (competitive) team?
In the event that your child does not make the double letter team, he will be returned to the HRS single letter tryouts that will be running simultaneously with the double letter camp.
Can I try out with another association before or during my try-out with HRS?
Every player wanting to try out for AA or BB double letters must register with HRS and try out with the HRS double letter camp. If HRS does not have an AA team at the level in question we will evaluate the situation. But we will only know this part way thru the camps. Therefore everyone wanting to play double letters must be registered at the camp.
Can I request a release to play for another association?
No, the only exception to this will be if we do not have an AA team at a certain level and you must still participate in the HRS camp.
What happens if I do not register my child for the selection camp?
You do not have to register your child to double letters, but with the new Lac St-Louis Rules, if a player in single letters is deemed to be too dominant or of double letter calibre, that player will need to come play for the double letters, if not than the Association will need to surclass a team which would penalise ALL players. Also if a division does not have enough players trying out the same rules apply:
Player A is too dominant or double letter calibre:
HRS has 2 A and 1 B teams, then HRS would be forced to do 3A teams and 0 B’s.
When does the double letter (competitive) selection camp begin, who runs it and what is the cost?
The camp will begin the week after Labour Day, It will be run by volunteers and potential coaches. The evaluators are ALL independent. Because of the tight window that we were given, the camp for Pee Wee to Midget will last less than 3 weeks with a minimum of 2-3 sessions per week. Atom will be very similar. The cost is $75 for the first week (minimum 3 sessions) and an additional $75 if you make it to the 2nd week. The fees have been reduced from the previous 3-Lacs fees. The costs are to cover the ice costs as well as the evaluators.
What is the current situation at the Junior level:
As we speak, we have a hand shake agreement between Vaudreuil, Ile Perrot and HRS to merge the Junior levels into one. As soon as we have more details these will be sent to you all. Please note that it is only at the Junior level that their will be a merger.
